ABOUT ME
Bio
Liz Lauter, (b.1956, San Francisco, Ca) grew up in San Francisco and considers herself a California artist influenced by the multicultural, creative culture and arts of the Bay Area with vibrant communities from Asia, Mexico and Italy. Her family lived in Israel for a few years and that added another dimension of Middle Eastern arts and culture to her influences. She studied Art and Botany in college (Mills College and UC Davis) and always merged the two in her artwork. She considers herself a painter, who is in love with ceramics (which she learned at a young age.) Her love of pattern and design became a hand painted and screen printed textile gift business from 1986-1999. She still maintains some of her business activities. In 2000 needing a regular income with her family of 4 teenagers, she began teaching high school art in Marin County at Redwood High School. She was first hired to teach Photography even though she knew NOTHING about darkroom photography. She learned quickly though, and soon moved over to run the Ceramics program where she taught for almost 20 years. Retiring in 2019 finally gave her all her time to herself to create her own art work. She lives now with her husband just north of San Francisco in a heavenly place called West Marin in the San Geronimo Valley. It was the safe haven for the SF Hippies of the 1960’s. In many ways, it still is. |
